In order to meet the high requirements of the control system development for an effective and accuracycontrol-oriented model, a mean value model for a turbocharged diesel engine has been developed on theMatlab/Simulink. And then the error sources leading to the simulation inaccuracy have been analyzedcomprehensively and two sets of experiment for model calibration and validation have been designed. Then a model calibration process and a model validation process have been proposed, with which thedeveloped model is well calibrated and validated against the two sets of experimental data. Especially, forthe compressor model calibration, an improved Jensen&Kristense method has been introduced tointerpolate and extend the compressor maps. And turbine efficiency observer is designed for therectification of turbine maps. At last the calibration and validation process as well as improved methodsand observer for turbocharger are verified and evaluated. Furthermore, for the purpose to improve theaccuracy of the mean value model under transient operation conditions, the typical parameters affect thetransient performance of the turbocharged diesel engine are analyzed and obtained based on modelidentification. In the end, the model accuracy of the mean value model under transient operation conditionshas been validated.
