The study of the impacts that deep foundation pit excavation brings to surroundinghistorical buildings is discussed in this paper. According to a case in Tianjin construction,settlement data before the excavation and after a period of time are measured to evaluatehistorical buildings near a deep foundation pit, for the exploration and research of theassessment of masonry structure under differential settlement. By using the ABAQUS finiteelement software, masonry homogenization theory research as the basis, the study establishmaterials mechanical parameters of floors and walls required by the whole building model.After establishment of the numerical model and the calculation, analyses of the impactswhich either differential settlement caused by the foundation pit excavation or differentialsettlement happened in history brings to the historic buildings.The calculation results show that, the settlement difference in history has made itpossible to reach a large stress in structure and reach plastic stress. The excavationproduced greater differential settlement, but did not significantly affect the stressdistribution, and the elements which the material exceeds the yield stress value does notincrease significantly. That shows the structure does not appear to yield new materials. Inthe macroscopic world, the gray in structure joints or the brick itself does not get morecracks because of the influence of foundation pit excavation.Through the analysis of the results, the excavation of deep foundation pit project thathas disturbed the brick-concrete structure, but there is no further damage to the historicbuilding. The stress concentration and plastic failure parts in building due to the settlementin history, which had produced a great influence on the structural safety, the main cause ofbuilding cracks.The analysis results of this paper will provide guidance and help to the historicalbuilding maintenance work. At the same time the result can provide reference parameters,such as mechanical model selection, material parameter, etc., for structural safetyevaluation to other historical buildings, especially those cannot carry out the field test.
