Tailing pond is the major hazardous source of mine, so the safety assessment ontailing pond is very important, and the root of the problem can be found by analysizingthe hidden dangers of tailing pond during operating period. Tailing dam is the importantpart of tailing pond, and it’s stability condition has close relationship with the wholetailing pond. The majority of tailing dams in our country are weak in stability, and theseepage stability and stability against sliding are the key problems.By the comprehensive methods containing many geotechnical investigationtechnologies, such as drilling, pitting, geophysical exploration and field test, the studyeffect is obvious on the physical-mechanical properties of tailing packing material,sediment law of tailing packing bodies and seepage flow characteristic, which providethe solid foundation for the following tability estimation of tailing dam.A two dimensional computational model of seepage flow is built by means ofLizheng seepage flow software, then the seepage flow stability under statical condition iscalculated and analysized, according to proper operating condition and floodingoperating condition, by virtue of the analysis on color cloud map from numbericalsimulation result, the conclusion of security in seepage flow stability is obtained undernormal groundwater level and flooding groundwater level.By virtue of Bishop method and Sweden slice method, the safety coefficient ofstability against sliding is calculated about tailing dam under statical condition, accordingto total normal stress mode, which is built on suppose of lurking and circular arc glideplane location, the calculating result show that the tailing dam is likely to be localinstability, but the circular arc glide plane can not happen which can affect the globalstability.
