The Electric Power Steering system (EPS) is an advanced automotive powersteering system which has been invented recently. Compared with the traditionalmechanical hydraulic steering system and mechanical steering system, it has a lot ofadvantages such as saving energy, protecting our environment, reducing weight,simple structure and flexible layout,and will become a kind of technology in steeringsystem which is widely used nowadays. The development of computer technology andthe virtual modeling technology provide a new way to shorten the development cycle,reduce product development costs and optimize product design.This paper introduces the history of power steering system, including the variousforms of steering system structure and its advantages and disadvantages. It focusesmainly on the structure of the principle as well as the classification and study of thesituation home and abroad.With design and calculation, the thesis has completed the design of mechanicalpart and selection of key components. In the ADAMS and MATLAB environment,based on the theory of Multi-Body dynamics, the virtual prototype model of vehicle isbuilt by the mechanical system simulation software.Based on the establishment of virtual prototype model, this paper has carried outco-simulation analysis, and analyzed the effects of control strategy factors onhandling and stability. The thesis introduced ideal assist-characteristic of steeringsystem, and analyzed the general process of assist-characteristic. And then a type ofassist-characteristic has been built. Combined with the virtual prototype model ofvehicle, the curve of assist-characteristic has achieved optimization and provided avaluable reference method for research of the EPS system.According to ADAMS/Car and MATLAB/Simulink, EPS system co-simulationand the entire system PID control has been applied to verify the correctness of thevehicle model built, and the final validation demonstrates that the co-simulation isfeasible for the study of dynamics characteristics of electric power steering system.
