In this paper, the traffic detection is based on vehicle traffic noise using digital signalprocessing. The factors and characteristics of traffic noise is analyzed. Vehicle noise signal ofpower function and the own factors of vehicle noise components is determined. Therelationship of the vehicle noise signal Doppler frequency shift and received vehicle noise isdetermined. Estimation the speed of traffic drive-by vehicle is determined vehicle noisespectrum response and Doppler frequency shift.The serious problem of traffic congestion and urban efficiency is received attention withaccelerating the pace of urbanization and automobile holdings soared in China. The traffictransport efficiency and traffic safety can be improved by Intelligent Transportation System(ITS-Intelligent Transportation System). Traffic detection technology has become importantpart of ITS. The traffic detection technology using acoustic, especially the detection using thetraffic noise, is a kind of more economic and convenient detection method. The advantage ofthe detection using the traffic noise is convenient management, small capital investment.Traffic detection can be effectively determined using road real-time noise. The value of thetraffic detection using vehicle noise has been extensively applied in automatic statistics,traffic monitoring, noise control, etc.The major contribution of vehicle traffic noise, towards overall noise, is a well-knownestablished fact. The vehicle noise is non-stationary. A vehicle’s acoustic signal consists of acombination of various noise signals generated by the engine, the tires, the exhaust system,and aerodynamic effects. The factors of the vehicle noise is vehicle types, quantity, vehiclespeed, moving state, the distance, honking, width and slope of road, wet and dry conditions,road conditions and buildings at the intersection of layers, and wind speed. So the vehiclenoise provides a fingerprint that can be used for describe the characteristics of the vehicle, anddescriptions of the entire road traffic.Experiment of this paper, the received signals is the noise sources generated a singlevehicle traffic noise of a signal microphone on the lane. Estimation the vehicle speed of different types is used to determine the mathematical model of the vehicle traffic noise andDoppler frequency shift. The result of vehicle speed estimation is compared with the actualvehicle speed. This speed estimation can be applied to the traffic detection technology.In this paper, vehicle traffic noise of environmental noise is researched. Thecharacteristic of vehicle noise signal of noise source is analyzed. The traffic detection isachieved using vehicle traffic noise.
