Ship is one of the most important maritime transportation, it bears more than90%of the total world trade and transportation, so the reliability of the navigation of ships is very important. During the actual voyage, many marine equipment, including diesel engine, generator and air compressor, need to work continuously at a bad conditions of high temperature and high pressure for a long time, resulting in damage or loss in the inner wall of equipments, which make defects or malfunctions for the equipments and bring dangers to the safer of sailing. How to detect equipment malfunction quickly and safety has become a priority. Infrared thermal imaging detection technology is a simple and reliable method for non-destructive testing. It can quickly detect temperature field distribution of object surface by using the infrared thermal imager, so it can find the potential problems of equipment easily and safely. This article analyses the measuring principle of infrared thermal imaging technology, then discuss the theory model of infrared thermal imaging technology in the fault detection of defects and temperature based on the known theory. Combined with the infrared thermal image of equipment on the ship, then analysis fault ship equipment. Nip in the bud, it plays a positive role for the safety of navigation of the ship. This article mainly has the following several parts:(1) Chapter1covers the development of the infrared thermal imaging technology and the technical characteristics and the significance of this article.(2) Chapter2mainly covers infrared thermal imaging temperature measurement principle, analysis the technology parameters of the infrared thermal imager and discusses the physics principle of infrared thermal imaging technology.(3) Chapter3focuses on the application of infrared thermal imaging technology to fault diagnosis to generalize and introduces the principle of infrared nondestructive testing, then gives an example for the applications of infrared thermal imaging technology. (4) Chapter4analyses the general method and principle of equipment internal defect diagnosis.(5) Chapter5is the infrared detection and analysis of ship equipment.(6)Chapter6has carried on the summary to the full article.
