Bus operation is affected by a variety of factors, and travel time appears greater volatility, that could easily lead to buses cluster at the transit, especially for multi-line docking site. Then, the parking demand would exceed parking capacity of the bus stop due to the buses cluster, sparking a series of traffic problems, as well. Studying the distribution of bus travel time is the basis of the analysis of the bus meeting at the site. And coordinating the ability of bus stop and demanding for bus parking is an important method to improve the efficiency of urban transport system. But there is still lack of such an ideal theoretical method for quantitative analysis of this phenomenon.Firstly, in this article, we analyze in-depth the distribution of bus travel time impacting by the intersection lights and volume of traffic, and the method of calculating probability density function of bus travel time have been put forward. Then, we obtained the time distribution of bus arriving at any transit with the means of recurrence. In addition, we compared the research findings and the simulation result by vissim, and found matching degree was high.Secondly, the paper proposed a method of calculating the probability of the buses cluster, build the model that bus stop impacting on the link capacity, and studied the bus stop service reliability on criterion of a-reliability. Then on basis of we found, the way of how to determine the types and the number of berths of bus stop was studied. What’s more, building a simple bus network, we analyzed the characteristics of the probability of buses encountering and the road capacity near bus stop over time. And discussed the influence of bus service frequency, the length of bus parking time and so on.Finally, in order to apply the findings to the actual production and construction, this paper presented the way of making practical development on research achievements in the workbench of transcad, and the feasibility of the method is provedThis paper have found that the distribution of vehicles travel time on the road is a mixture distribution, rather than a single theoretical distribution. The probability of buses encountering at the site and the actual capacity of the road segment near the bus stop fluctuate with time regularly in a cycle style. The curbside stop discounting the actual capacity of the road segment is bigger than bus bay. And the findings could provide a new tool to the prediction of vehicle travel time, link capacity corrected, the design and optimization of bus site, the evaluation of public transport system and so on. It is the basic application theory of studying optimization on public transportation system and the distribution of bus travel time.
