With the sharp increase in car ownership in recent years as well as the frequent passenger and freight flow transports, the inter-city traffic jams often occur, which seriously restrict the distribution of material between different regions. The inter-city traffic jams also influence the construction of the urban economic circle and the development of inter-city transport. Recognizing traffic congestion state of the inter-city road timely and accurately is important; it does not only provides traffic managers with strategic decision support in traffic congestion evacuation, but also helps travelers choose suitable travel route. Hence, this study will focus on recognition algorithm of the traffic state based on data from more than hundreds of floating car in Fujian province.Firstly, this study evaluates all kinds of traffic information collection technology. The major techniques including the minimum sample size determination of floating car and map matching are elaborated.Then, in order to establish a method for qualitative characterization of inter-city traffic state, this study analyzes the inter-city road features, traffic flow characteristics and speed characteristics. This study also researches the formation and evacuation process of traffic congestion. After the analyze of the large-scale floating car driving characteristics on various road networks,the inter-city traffic state recognition model based on fuzzy comprehensive evaluation is put up, the weight and membership function in fuzzy comprehensive evaluation are designed based on different types of floating car speed characteristic information, and the inter-city traffic state recognition algorithm based on fuzzy comprehensive evaluation is established to achieve the dynamic recognition of inter-city traffic state.Finally, this study tests the algorithm by historical floating car data, the media information and the traffic video images verification results show that the recognition method proposed by this study can efficiently recognize the inter-city road traffic state and has practical application value.
