Traditional industrial design primarily aimed to achieve functional purpose. During the process of the design, the designers often ignore the human factors, such as human physical characteristics (human physiological scale) and psychological factors (people’s habits, traditions awareness and so on). Thereby it leads to a design of the industrial product which will be incompatible with the work efficiency, health, safety and comfort requirements. However the CAED (computer aided ergonomics design) is a good solution. It takes the human factors into consideration during the whole life cycle of the product, especially in the phrases of product design as fullest as possible. Nowadays with the development of the computer aided ergonomics design, some problems emerging. For example, the construction of virtual human models is based on1980s’national standards, which is not in line with modern standards obviously; what’s more, it captures the movements by attaching the sensor on the human. This paper presents a new way to solve the above problems, which is Kinect-based interactive technology. With the aids of this technology, we do not need to wear any application. Kinect sensor can capture the movement of people, and provide real time data to improve the authenticity of the research. And the latest Kinect SDK can obtain the size of the human body directly, and even the three-dimensional model of the human body. All we need to do is to stand in front of Kinect. The participation of Kinect can simplify the steps for building the ergonomics simulation. And it also provides theoretical data for statistical analysis. On the basis of achieving human tracking and real-time simulation of motion control, this paper make the movements to be real-time visualization by processing programming language. And it can provide the designers with a real-time statistical analysis and visualization of each critical point data. Besides, for some related data which can’t be recorded by Kinect, we can make it visualization by a simple statistical calculation. And finally we can show the most intuitive design reference data model for the designers. In the last of the paper, we take a chair design for example to verify whether the application of ergonomics based Kinect system could help the designers. According to the experimental results, we come to a conclusion:the resulting reference data model is valid for the designers.
