With the social and economic development, transport facilities are not limited to trafficmarking, traffic signs, lights and other common facilities, and its content is constantlyenriched and supplemented. For example, there are some new aspects like slow traffic facility,parking facility, ITS facility and so on. Transport facilities are more and more important intransport system of city!Transportation facility design research is to study the theory of road traffic operation,design and evaluation principles to understand the requirements and content related to designspecifications and standards. So that transport facilities are designed to ensure a main targetof safety, smooth, environmental protection, sustainable development.Behind transport facility design there are lots of theories and research results. Thetheories of transport facility design are mainly based on traffic engineering, including vehicleengineering theory, theory of traffic flow, capacity theory, humanized design theory, theory ofindividual behavior, visual perception theory, engineering mechanics, road communicationtheory, computer simulation theory and etc. Transport facilities design is a combination ofvarious theories which are applied to specific design.This article focuses on the wide application of traffic engineering capacity theory,humanized design theory and traffic simulation study&analysis. It illustrates a combinationof engineering practice and theory methods through some cases. And according to casesstudies, it gives some conclusions, like evaluation and optimization methods for intersectionsignal design, summarization of problems without humane considerations in transportfacilities design, introduction of the humanized design content and methods for expressway,main points for the design of rotary island, separated bridge/tunnel, and methods of transportfacilities arrangement in special sections through microscopic simulation.
