At first, the current research status of Probable Maximum Precipitation (PMP) is elaborated in this paper. Then, the PMP of Cangnan nuclear powerstation in Zhejiang province is evaluated by means of local pattern, transposition pattern, and the statistical estimate method. The local pattern is a method of enlargement of vapor effieieney which accrued on local area to calculate the PMP. Three rain storms, which took place in the south of Zhejiang, are choosen as transposition objects in the transposition pattern. After making corrections of transposition storms and enlarging the vapor, the biggest one is choosen as PMP. The statistical estimate method is used in the paper too.The rainstorm statistical parameters of12rain stations near to the powerstation is analysed. The biggest one is taken as PMP.Frequecy analysis of the maximum24h precipitation of the year is applied in12rainfall stations which are located at Cangnan. The design precipitation with the frequency of0.01%of these12rain stations is taken as a basic proof for the rationality of the PMP result.Rainstorm formula is used in calculating the short-duration PMP. In the paper, with the observed short-duaration rainstorms near to the powerstation, parameters of the rainstorm formula are estimated. The short-duration PMP is caculated by the rainstorm formula. At last, we analyze the rationality for the outcome of PMP. The research findings of this paper provide guidance for the preliminary design of Cangnan nuclear powerstation.
