According to "Standard for Classification and Flood Control of Water Resources and Hydroelectric Projects"(SL252-2000) and "Classification & Design Safety Standard of Hydropower Projects"(DL5180-2003), the standard of Spillway Design Flood for first chop large scale earth and rockfill dam must be Probable Maximum Flood, or recurrence interval of ten thousand years. The major dam of Hutiao Gorge Water-Power Station is first chop large scale earth and rockfill dam.At first, the current situation of Probable Maximum Precipitation and Probable Maximum Flood Calculations research in the world is elaborated in this paper.Then, the computations of PMP for Hutiao Gorge Water-Power Station in computational means of Local Pattern and Combination Pattern are elaborated in this paper. The Local Pattern includes methods of Enlargement of Vapor Efficiency and Enlargement of Vapor & Wind Speed.Moreover, we try to adopt method of statistical test research. In this way, we stochastically model extraordinary storm (P=0.01%), and then it is compared with the outcome of Combination Pattern. We analyze the rationality for Combination Pattern as a result.We use Xin'anjiang model and synthetic unit hydrograph as schemes of yield runoff & affluxion. Then we establish the schemes of yield runoff & affluxion according to local data of downpour and flood. And compute the Probable Maximum Flood at the location of the dam base on the regional combination of the Probable Maximum Flood.At last, we analyze the rationality for the outcome of our PMP/PMF calculations. The research findings of this paper will provide guidance for the preliminary design of Hutiao Gorge Water-Power Station.
