As one of the important parts of the Formula Student China’(sfor short “FSC”)racing car,the frame supports the most of the load from racing car assembly and parts. FSC car framebelongs to the space truss type structure, which has the characteristics of light quality, highstrength, good stability and so on. High-strength alloy steel is often chosen and weldedtogether. In the race, the car frame faces a variety of impact loads from alternative workingcondition, such as full load bending, reverse, emergency braking and high speed turning, etc.Therefore, the strength, stiffness and fatigue damage performance of the frame structuredirectly affects the reliability of the frame and the racing car’s safety. It is of great significanceto analyze the structural static mechanics and dynamic performance of FSC car frame, perfectthe design of the frame structure based on analysis results to improve car’s comprehensiveperformance, reduce weight.In this paper, on the basis of the rules of2013FSC, the frame is set up in CATIA, thethree-dimensional modeling software, the finite element model is established by importinggeometry model into HyperMesh, meshing, constraining and loading, and the frame’s stressand strain distribution under a variety of conditions are calculated in OptiStruct solver.Modal analysis (block Lanczos) is applied to check the dynamic characteristic of theframe, and the frame designed is guaranteed that it can effectively avoid several frequenciesof vibration source including uneven road surface motivation, tire dynamic imbalance andengine vibration, and prevent resonance phenomenon.According to the analyzing results above, the structure is improved in some places,where stiffness are too larger or strength are weaker, to make the material layout reasonableand reduce the mass of the frame. The analysis process and the improved design of the framecan be used as a reference for the frame of the next generation car.
