Connecting rod as one of the key parts in the engine, its quality influences the stability, continuity, and the service life of the engine, also relates to the driving safety of an automobile. This study improved the pre-forging process of connecting rod, based on the studies on traditional forging processes. Flattening process is designed, and the blank, which being pressed5mm, proved to be the best pre-forging blank through the simulation. By comparing the relationship between forming parameters and flow pattern, mold load, stress-strain, the best forming parameters are given:temperature is1250℃, velocity is10mm/s and friction factor is0.3. By the optimization of the pre-forging process, the flowing conditions of the metal is improved, the defects of folding is avoided, the rate of material utilization is improved, and the production cost is reduced. At the same time, this research can also be generalized to other similar parts production.
