After a long period of development, nowadays traditional structure residentialconstructions already have a mature design, development, construction, postmaintenance mode, as well as a series of supporting measures and complete residentialindustry chain. With this relatively mature development, the situation of residentialhousing shortage, caused by rapid development of China’s urbanization, was greatlyeased. However, due to characteristics such as high-energy consumption, pollution, lackof intensive control etc., constructions of traditional structure residential constructionshave caused great loss and pollution on the land resources and environment in China,which is not consistent with China’s sustainable development strategy, low-carbonenvironmental protection and energy-saving requirements. In Handan, under thesituation of accelerating urbanization process, contradictions between economicdevelopment and resource shortage as well as environmental deterioration become moreand more obvious. Therefore, the traditional residential structure system cannot meetthe requirements in modern times any more.These drawbacks can be unfavorable factors in the development of Handan in thecoming future. So countermeasures are in urgent need. Technological innovation can beused in the process of construction to alleviate the negative influence of residentialconstructions, meanwhile, promoting the development of urbanization in Handan.From the analysis of residential construction in European countries and America,residential construction system with steel structure has been able to meet the currentdemand, which is consistent with China’s policy of constructing a conservation-orientedsociety. Nowadays, it is the times of the steel structure. From a overall viewpoint,technology used in steel structure residential construction system has been relativelymature in China. However, this situation does not suit small and medium-sized citieswhere traditional reinforced concrete structure is still dominant in residentialconstruction.The main purpose of this article is to discuss how to market the steel structureresidential construction in Handan and uses several excellent examples of Europeancountries and America about the steel structure residential construction as thebreakthrough point. Firstly, the structure of common steel structure system the advantages of steel structure residential construction are introduced. Secondly, in termsof economical efficiency, analyze the steel structure construction and find its economyadvantages. Then, compare the steel structure residential construction with traditionalstructure residential construction in the terms of their life cycle and further prove itseconomical advantage. Furthermore, analyze the status of urbanization in terms of boththe whole country and Handan. And then, combine with the regional and geologicalcharacteristics in Handan and make several suggestions about how to promote steelstructure residential construction system in Handan. Finally, make a conclusion thatsteel structure residential construction system is suitable to promote applied research inHandan.
