In the twenty-first century, the industry of maintenance, reinforcement and reconstruction for the existing building is one of the most popular industries. Following the development of modern technology and the requirement of the maintenance, the reliability appraisal, the strengthening and reconstruction technology for the existing building comes into being as a new science gradually and develops rapidly. As a kind of age-old architecture structure, masonry is widely used in building. Owing to the brittleness of the material, the masonry structure is inferior in the ability of shearing strength, lengthening strength and bending strength, also for the masonry structure appeared early, in the initial design of many masonry structure buildings had only considered the gravity load without horizontal earthquake effect, especially for our country is such an earthquake-prone area. The study incorporated an engineering project to study and exploration the strengthening and reconstruction technology for the existing building. Paper mainly conducted the following aspects.1. The paper had showed the development of the reinforcement and reconstruct at home and abroad, explicit the purpose of the reliability estimation and reinforcement of the existing building. Introduced the three stage of the development of the construction industry, also defined the development direction of our country and the importance of the study about the reliability estimation and reinforcement.2. Briefly introduce the basic knowledge on the appraisal construction reliability, state the aim, ways and steps of the reliability appraisal of the existing building, the principles of the gradation for structure and members, and the levels of the reliability appraisal.3.Paper introduce the basic reinforcement principle of the structure and its press force characteristics after reinforced, also discuss the reinforcement ways that are used basically in the masonry structure.4. The paper discussed the principle identification of masonry structure and the reinforcing principle of the reinforcement. The paper introduced the commonly used method of masonry structure, made a simple discussion of reinforcement of reinforced concrete wall; of cement grouting method; of helped pilaster reinforcement; of mat reinforcement cement mortar strengthening method; constructive reinforcement and the characteristics of the reinforcement method.5. The paper used PKPM software, combined with the engineering practice of masonry structure to make identification; to make reinforcement design; make a detailed analysis of the appraisal process, then make a performance analysis for the building, analyzed the mechanical characteristics of the structure depends on calculation results, chose a reasonable reinforcement scheme, finally give a seismic strengthening design and construction reference.Masonry structure application is very wide in our country, so spread the subject research has great market and its prospect is wide, and has the practical and feasible way to industrialization transformation. The research filed of identification and reinforcement technique for the exiting building structure has strong comprehension, the research difficulty is great for it includes multiple disciplines. The problem discussed in this paper is only a preliminary discussion; the subject will obtain considerable development along with the deep of relevant theoretical research; the market demand and the promotion of engineering application.
