The collapse of building structure is mainly due to the deformation and energy dissipation capacity less than the corresponding demand. The advantage of performance based seismic design (PBSD) theory then based on bearing capacity design method is that can design quantitatively the deformation capacity according to component deformation. Meanwhile, The "small earthquake is not bad, repairable under moderate earthquake, earthquake does not fall" three levels of fortification level refined and concreted by PBSD, considering the safety of life and property loss requirements, which is the current development trend of seismic design of building structure.This paper considers the performance of shear wall structure design as the object of study, introduces the development of performance based seismic design method, discuss the classification principle of performance objectives and performance level, introduces the performance based on seismic design theory and design method, researches on the performance indexes of shear wall structure, sums up the superiority of performance design method. Meanwhile, this paper discusses the basic principles, advantages and application of the static elastic-plastic analysis method, introduces the static elastic-plastic analysis steps, and elaborates the capacity spectrum method, the equivalent dis-placement coefficient method based on elastic-plastic analysis method.This paper adopts the finite element analysis software PKPM on a concrete shear wall structure engineering are analyzed. The structure is carried out the elastic analysis of shear wall with SATWE software, and then calculates and analyses elastic-plastic deformation of the structure using PUSH software combined with capacity spectrum method under strong earthquake, performance curve, the structural performance angle of the floor displacement curves and performance of the plastic hinge distribution point was obtained. When the elastic-plastic analysis of structure reaches the performance requirements under nape, inter-story displacement angle satisfies the prescribed limits and has the good ability of energy dissipation.
