| Garden plants are important elements in landscape design, which constitute a richand colorful landscape forms. Along with the strengthening of consciousness in ecologyand protect the environment, human pay more attention to the construction of plantlandscape. Human is to perceive objects in the pathway of visual, auditory, tactile andolfactory. Visual is the main experience route among those, then visual landscape hasbecome the subject of appreciation. Therefore, this study is based on the visualcharacteristics of plant landscape as a starting point.Human beings get information from plants’ size, shape, color, texture most largelyand directly, which are important visual characteristics in plant landscape design. Theresearches about plant’s texture before, describes plant’s texture as fine, coarse, medium,low types. It is like that color has been simply described as red, orange, yellow, green,cyan, blue and purple simply in the classical color theory. There is no scientificquantization. This situation is not advantageous to the scientific of plant landscape design.The purpose of this paper is to promote the research of plant texture from qualitativedescription to quantitative analysis.According to the theory of fractal geometry, human scale and the visual psychology,this paper selected leaf length/tree height, leaf width/tree height as index to quantifytree’s texture, and leaf length/body height, leaf width/body height to bushes and herb.This paper selected62species of trees and48species of bushes in Zhengzhou, thenanalyzed them based on the selected index. On this basis, the selected plants were sortedand classified according to each index. The texture types has been divided into6categories, represented by I, II, III, IV, V, VI.This paper quantified plant’s texture of the actual plant landscape cases, base on thevisual characteristics of plants and the principle of form beauty. It is to go forward onestage at a time that to confirm the index is scientific and practical. |
