With the development of economy and society make people’s dependence on energy isfurther increased, the resulting energy problem becomes increasingly serious, especially inthe electric power industry. China’s power production80%comes from thermal power,generate electricity by burning coal and other resources, and along with the society to thepower requirements gradually increase, simply relying on increasing the powerinfrastructure investment can not effectively solve the problems facing the electric utilityindustry, environmental pollution problems caused by the harmful gas and coal combustionemissions. People pay more and more attention, it is necessary to find a way of sustainabledevelopment of efficient and reliable. Research on power demand side management caneffectively solve the problem of power industry environment energy waste and coalresources are produced by the combustion of protect environment, open a new door for thepower industry, energy saving. Develop related technology of computer, communication,automation and other fields, and gradually been applied to electric power industry, thedevelopment of intelligent power grid has become the main direction of the developmentof power industry, the power grid construction to meet the requirements of the times of thesmart grid has become an inevitable trend, with the successful construction of smart grid,the power industry of our country to the last new step, as an important part of smart grid,plays an important role in research on demand side management under the smart grid, itcan further relieve the energy crisis, improve system reliability, reduce environmentalpollution, to provide better service for the vast number of users of electric power, improvethe whole society’s consumption level.In this paper, combined with the characteristics of the power demand sidemanagement and the smart grid, and analyze the relation and difference of power demandside management under smart grid and conventional power demand side management,summarized the relationship and function of smart grid and demand side management,analyzes the concept of demand side management under smart grid, and describes thecharacteristics of demand side management under smart grid and its main work, basing onthe construction of a new pricing model, the price ladder and time-of-use price together,the gradient of time-of-use price joint optimization, through the simulation example provesits feasibility. It also introduces the key technology of demand side management undersmart grid, which is an advanced measurement system and intelligent communicationtechnology, highly developed meter, describes these techniques for demand sidemanagement role in smart grid, analyzes the application of the key role of the smart meterand its function, and puts forward relevant proposals for the development of future smartmeter industry.
