With the rapid development of economy and technology in the domestic and abroad, people has a growing demand for living standard and environment. Therefore, it is imperative to develop the intelligent city. Japan has studied the intelligent public transport system as an indispensable part of the intelligent city in the early1970s. Until now there have been a number of good applications used in life. As the number of city buses rises year by year, there is an increasing demand for the vehicle terminal equipment.The smart vehicle terminal equipment becomes more informative, intelligent and diversified as the rapid development of embedded technology, GPS, GPRS,3G and the melting between mobile storage technology and embedded technology. The essential of science lies in that the technological achievements are applied to people’s life and people can experience the convenience which science and technology brings. Consequently, it is of great significance to keep on developing the vehicle equipment. This thesis first call vehicle terminal equipment vehicle platform, because it is more than a simple vehicle terminal, but an indispensable part of the whole public transportation network.China also has a very large development space in the intelligent transport system through studying the development of the present situation of the intelligent transport system domestic and abroad. According to the domestic public transport system situation and the international technical level, a concrete and detailed project is conducted in this thesis. The vehicle platform consists of mainframe and auxiliary. The mainframe mainly processes, controls and displays data while the auxiliary mainly competes power management, data acquisition, data storage and wireless communications. All external interfaces are connected to the auxiliary. The structured design is adopted in the hardware which includes power supply module, control module, display module, audio decoding and video decoding module, storage module and wireless communication module, etc. This project adopts the domestic open source RT-Thread operating system, which has the advantages of small kernel, high real-time and with multiple free components. The development and debugging of hardware and software is completed in phases. The first step is to develop the bottom-driven and check the hardware performance. On condition that the hardware functions properly, then the next step is to port the operating system in software and start to perform the upper application software and realize the specific business. And then debug the mainframe and auxiliary together after the completion of development. Finally, facilitate the field debug many times to insure a good result.
