Based on APTS (Advanced Public Transportation System), the paper designed the system of bus monitoring, control, dispatching and service for small and medium cities. This system includes IBBT (the intelligent bus-borne terminals), electronic bus stops, the center of BMCD (bus monitoring, control and dispatching) and the sub centers of BMCD. In addition, the functional requirement of IBBT was analyzed. Moreover, the software and hardware of IBBT were designed and tested. As the terminal of BMCD, IBBT provides the real-time positioning data for bus, the parameters of the important parts of bus. In addition, it can receive the control commands from the center of BMCD.As the terminal of service, IBBT not only works as an automatic bus stop annunciator, but also provides emergency call and short message service.IBBT consists of the master board and the slave board. The master board, with LPC2368 being its core, expands positioning module, data acquisition module, GSM/GPRS module, etc. The slave board, with LPC2138 being its core, expands keyboard, LCD module and voice record/playback module. The communication interface between the master board and slave board is RS485 bus.Based on the designed software and hardware, system debugging and experiments on IBBT were conducted. The results indicated that IBBT can provide precise positioning data, user-friendly man-machine interface, and clear announcement of bus stop information. It can perform the basic function of BMCD and service for APTS. By researching the subject, the author's ability to analyze and solve problems has been improved.
