On the basis of the Octagon-Shaped Concrete-Filled Double Skin Steel Tubular (OSCFDSST), a new type of concrete-filled double skin Steel tubular (CFDSST) is researched. The paper is mainly about bearing capacity of axial compression of octagon-shaped concrete-filled double skin steel tubular long columns with PVC-U as its inner tube.Firstly, relevant research Status about OSCFDSST, OSCFDSST with PVC-U as its inner tube and the advantages and feasibility of such structure in engineering applications are examined. According to the relevant studies, the second part is dedicated to the cross-sectional dimension of the test member, including the geometric dimensions of the outer pipe, PVC-U inner tube and the length of the specimen, and it also determines the type of material. The paper then moves onto the arrangement of measuring point and the loading scheme of the specimen. Destruction of the specimen and related data during the experiment are also Recorded. Load-axial displacement curve, load-strain curve and deflection curve are drawn in accordance with the test data. Through an analysis of the experimental results, a summary of the failure modes of the specimens, the impact of the specimens’slenderness ratio, diameter/thickness ratio and hollow ratio upon their bearing capacity are presented. Finally, the paper provides a formula to calculate OSCFDSST with PVC-U as its inner tube under the axial pressure bearing capacity, introduces the method for determining the stability modulus. The formula’s feasibility is verified by comparison of the actual bearing value and the calculation value of the specimen. In addition, this paper also attempts to conduct a computer definite element simulation analysis, its finite element results agreed well with the experimental results. It is hoped that this study could provide a reference to promote the use of such member as soon as possible in engineering applications.
