Subtropical area, is an important climate zone of all in the world, the climaticcharacteristics of subtropical make the architectures of this area developing its own unique setof design technique. China’s subtropical area mainly concentrated in the south of the FiveRidges area, the research of the architectural development of South of the Five Ridges isconcentrate on the study of South China University of Technology School, since1932RangQin University makes a start in the beginning of the history, today, the research of thedevelopment of South China University of Technology on the object of architecture has ahistory of more than80years. The research of development of modern architecture has manyrelated articles, but for one aspect of the most important part of the development ofarchitectural technology is rarely mentioned. The whole building technique involves theconstruction of acoustic, optical, thermal engineering, the structure of the building. The morewo know the development history of building technology in Southern China, the betterunderstanding of the Southern China building we will get, it will be a great help to ourarchitectural creation in Southern China area.This paper focuses on the South China University of technology since1958, in whichyear the establishment of Subtropical Building Research Laboratory began combing thermalengineering research, and it takes great development after that all the way to1999, and thebackground of the department of architecture at the early stage of the development since1932,as well as some of the key figures of the architectural creation theory and detailed analysisand research of the important work, which all together,to reveal the development and changeof our building thermal subtropical engineering, in order to prove that the architectural designand construction of thermal engineering is an entirety that can’t be departed, the buildingthermal engineering study is developed from the architectural design, which in return thethermal engineering research of building promotes the development of architectural design,improving the architectural design of the whole subtropical area. This paper will explore howto carry forward the tradition of the subtropical building technology under the background ofnew era, all of these will help us to think about how to create a regional characteristic ofarchitecture. As a new generation of socially responsible architects, it is important and of great practical and guiding significance for us to understand the modern architecture in southof the Five Ridges, to keep a clear and correct professional attitude, to explore a modern roadof local characteristics of the construction in the globalization era in the southern area.
