With the increasing complexity of urban traffic system, the demand of vehicle positioning accuracy has been increasing. Global Position System (GPS for short) is a new generation of precision satellite positioning system which is established along with the rapid development of modern science and technology. GPS is a global, all-weather, continuous real-time three-dimensional positioning. Therefore GPS has been developing in military and civilian career field. GPS technology was used in the previous vehicle navigation system for vehicle location. When encountering on environmental shelter, navigation work is unable to function properly. So the positioning accuracy was reduced. In the roadway of high-rise buildings, receiving signal conditions are often poor. When along the tunnel, no signal is available. At this time, Dead reckoning technology (DR for short) can be used as a temporary navigation tools. Dead reckoning and GPS technology are highly complementary.In a short time, the accuracy of DR is quite high, even higher than that of GPS, but with the increase of using time, the error accumulation of DR will be more and more. So the accuracy of the navigation will drop sharply. At this time, we have to use the GPS system to find out the absolute location. Then DR can be used again. DR and GPS navigation system is complementary to each other, but the product is still not much. The main bottlenecks are the accuracy and cost of DR sensors and the algorithm development of the navigation system integration.This paper studies vehicle navigation system using the Dead reckoning technology, designing a vehicle-mounted navigation and positioning system based on STM32. The main contents are as follows.1. First of all, this paper introduces several navigation systems and their advantages and disadvantages. Then the paper states the current development of navigation system at home and abroad and the significance of the research.2. For the vehicle dead reckoning navigation system, this paper studies the hardware platform and software platform of the system, mainly data acquisition and processing of each sensor.3. Dead reckoning technology is the essence of this paper, which can calculate automobile speed and position by itself. When GPS signals unlock and appear multipath effects, dead reckoning technology can improve the positioning accuracy. This paper studies the navigation system which is composed of accelerometer and gyroscope.4. Filter is an important measure to restrain and prevent interference. This paper gives the theoretical algorithm of kalman filtering technique, and makes a lot of simulation. The simulation results indicate that kalman filter can improve the precision of the system and overcome the shortcoming of the pure inertial navigation system. And deduce the standard kalman filtering algorithm from vehicle dead reckoning navigation system.5. Car testing proves the reliability of dead reckoning technology.
