Forklift is a commonly used material handling vehicles. The rapid development of modern logistics industry has brought the huge demand for forklift drivers. The traditional approach to training apprentice by a master has disadvantages of long training time, low training efficiency, insufficient training content etc. This has been unable to meet the modern enterprise training needs for forklift drivers. Based on the guiding of modern virtual reality technology, taking widely applied forklifts of balanced weight with medium and small tonnage as the research objective, the paper has integrated use of computer graphics, software engineering, modern sensing and control technology, forklifts kinematics and dynamics, forklift driving operation technology, ergonomics and other multi-disciplinary knowledge to further study the key technologies of surrounding forklift operation training virtual reality system.Firstly, the paper identifies the overall ideology and basic principles about virtual reality system’s development and design of forklift driving operation and analyzes the functional requirements and structure of the system, and on this basis of which the paper completes the design and selection of system software and hardware composition modules. Taking the driver operating angle as the center, it builds the first domestic virtual reality system of surrounding forklift driver operating with the same proportion driver’s chamber.Secondly, in order to improve the system immersive,, this paper analyzes the composition structure and construction method of visual system based on the basic principles of computer graphics, completes the construction and optimization of physical models, studies image calibration and edge fusion technology in the3d projection system, and has realized the real-time and realistic render of virtual reality scene.Thirdly, based on the forklift basic principles of dynamics and kinematics, aiming at the application of the simulator visual, the paper establishes forklift dynamics and kinematics models, and based on which completes the forklift instability state model and other sudden stress scenario model research, realizing the forklift driver stress training. Finally, the paper analyzes the mechanism of forklift steering wheel force, establishes force feedback model in static and motion states based on forklift dynamics and kinematics models, identifies the overall function and structure of simulator steering system, completes the motor and sensor selection and mechanical design of steering system, and achieves the steering wheel limit, return, and power analog.The research results have already been applied in practical engineering, improve the forklift driver training quality and efficiency, and have achieved good social benefits.
