With the rapid development of computer and network communication technology, marine engine simulation research has made significant progress, engine room simulator of different types of vessels have also been emerging. In recent years, virtual reality technology applied to marine simulation training has gradually become an important development direction of modern marine simulation system research. Compared with traditional simulator in forms of semi-physical simulation or two-dimensional software simulation, three-dimensional virtual engine room simulating system makes up for the deficiency that tradition marine simulator can not provide the experience of the real working environment of engine room, it can provide users with realistic sense of virtual vision, sounds and tactility by the visualization of marine room environment, to reach a real effect of entering into marine engine room environment mentally. Engine room virtual simulating system provide trainer with a more autonomous and efficient learning and training platform. In this paper, based on "AHTS 681" as the attendant ship designed and constructed by Wuhan shipbuilding industry, combining AHTS simulator designed by Dalian Maritime University, a set of three-dimensional virtual simulation system is developed. This paper firstly introuces the development of virtual reality and its application in the marine engine room simulator and basic information of "AHTS 681", choose system development environment and design this virtual simulation system combining marine engine simulator. Then it introduces modeling method, process and modeling normalization of engine room scene, and studys normal mapping technology in scene optimization. The scene special effect is achieved by using illumination model writen in Unity3D built-in shaders to improve effect and real-time of virtual scene rendering. Implement virtual scene of engine room by studying the technology collision detection and interactive pick. Finally realize real-time data communication between two-dimensional marine engine simulator software and three-dimensional vitual engine room simulation system through network communication technology, so that marine engine system and equipments can be operated virtually and synchronously.
