At present, with the rapid development of electronic technology, a significant increasenumber of high-power electrical appliances are employed for thousands of households,resulting the harmonic pollution problems because of load devices. To effectively suppress oreliminate the harmonics of load devices, electronics engineers have developed a few powerfilters. The traditional method which to manage harmonic can be roughly divided into passivefilter and active power filter. They have been widely used in many fields since the beginningof the80’s of20th century. With the rapid development of power electronic technology andfull-control power electronic devices, more and more electronics engineers are attractedbecause of the birth of hybrid active power filter.The aged harmonic control method is summarized in this paper, as well as theadvantages and disadvantages of separate application of active power filter and passive powerfilter are introduced. Afterwards, the operation principle and topological structure of parallelhybrid active power filter are introduced in detail. The harmonic suppression principle,wattless compensation principle and harmonic current d-q method based on triphaseinstantaneous reactive power theory are mainly explained. Furthermore, the parameters andthe structure of the main circuit, LC pumping circuit, and the passive filter of the parallelhybrid active power filter is designed. Finally, Matlab/Simulink module is employed to buildsimulation module and the simulation is applied by setting the parameters. The simulationresults are analyzed in detail. In the process of simulation, considering the overhigh totalharmonic distortion of the load current, the cutoff frequency parameters are adjusted.Consequently, the total distortion rate of load current can be effectively reduced, as well asreach the grid connect requirements of state grid.Simulation results demonstrate that the harmonic and reactive power compensation canbe effectively eliminated by the parallel hybrid active power filter, which could ensure thesafety of electrical appliances as well as the power grid, thereby further reducing theeconomic losses caused by harmonics.
