As the freight power, railway is the major vehicle for the freight in China. And developing heavy haul freight is the major trend for China’s railway, so it is severely necessary to develop a kind of beam-type suitable for the heavy axle load. Reactive Powder Concrete (RPC) is a new generation material, which has good physical and mechanical properties, so the application of RPC is of important implications for developing heavy haul railway bridge.Series of heavy haul railway RPC T-beams are theoretically analyzed and optimized by combining finite element analysis and optimization method in this paper. The optimal parameters of cross-section, prestressed reinforced area and ratio of height to span is determined through the optimization. Taking the total cost of the beam as the objective function, T-beam cross-sectional dimensions and tendon area as design variables, strength and deflection as constraints, RPC T-beam is optimized with zero-order parameter optimization method in ANSYS. The results show that, the mechanical properties of RPC beam is good and at the same time RPC should meet the bearing capacity and stiffness requirements of the low height beam; the total construction cost of heavy haul railway RPC simply-supported T-beam is mainly controlled by the RPC, that is mainly controlled by the sectional dimensions of the T-beam.Compared with the current design, the height of beam is reduced to a certain extent due to the superior mechanical properties of RPC. Compared with ordinary concrete beam, the weight of RPC T-beam is reduced more than15%under normal using, which is of great significance for reducing the weight of long span concrete beam bridge. The total construction cost of RPC T-beam is higher than the T-beam made from ordinary concrete, because the unit price of RPC is higher. However, RPC T-beam can be used without maintenance, which is due to good durability of the material. And the comprehensive cost of RPC simply-supported T-beam bridge is less than the normal concrete bridge in its lifetime.
