Architecture is complex system engineering involved of construction professionals.Plumbing inside the building has the features of multi-species, multi-purpose, complexstructure, wide range. Those features are reflected especially obviously in pipelineproject of building water supply and drainage. Since in recent years pipeline type ofbuilding water supply and drainage is more and more, and the change considerations ofpipeline project are more and more, but the performance of two-dimensional graphicdesign in actual design work is not very satisfactory, especially its is more helpless tosolve the pipeline collisions and cross-cutting issues. So in the field of pipeline designusing three-dimensional simulation software for building information modeling (BIM)of pipeline project has become a new bright spot. Building information modelingtechnology has the benefits of three-dimensional, virtual simulation, parameter model, information transfer and sharing. And it is especially adapted to the engineeringproblems of multi-angle observation, parameter management, resource sharing. In thispaper, from the building information modeling technology, the three-dimensionalmodeling of drainage pipeline system was built by the three-dimensional simulationsoftware of Autodesk Revit MEP, which has significance to the pipeline collisions andcross-cutting issues.According to the situation of conventional two-dimensional design can’t fully meetthe designers’ requirements, but pipeline collisions and cross-cutting issues often occurwhen pipeline engineering are designed. This paper innovatively put forward ofconstructing building information modeling of drainage pipeline system, by using thethree-dimensional simulation software of Autodesk Revit MEP, which provide thescientific basis for pipeline integrated design. The main completed were as follows:(a) The feasibility of using three-dimensional simulation software to solve pipelinecollisions and cross-cutting issues was demonstrated through contrasting thecharacteristics and range of four common softwares. And Autodesk Revit MEP2013software was selected to establish building information modeling.(b) From function overview, system composition and classification, drainage fixedand design flow, hydraulic calculation method; relevant theoretical knowledge of drainage design was given. At the same time, the theoretical foundation of hydrauliccalculation and design graphics in sewerage pipeline system was laid.(c) Took the drainage pipeline design of a tall building as the research object,two-dimensional graphic design of drainage system was completed by using AutoCADdesign software and original design information. Final design results were presented inthe form of two-dimensional drawings, and final design results need to be checked andthe design results need to be changed after completion.(d) Took the drainage pipeline design of a tall building as the research object, andAutodesk Revit MEP2013three-dimensional simulation software was used to constructthe building information modeling of a tall building’ drainage pipeline system.Three-dimensional simulation model can be used to make construction simulation, remove pipeline collisions and cross-cutting issues and count pipeline dosage. Theresults showed that,in the process of construct the building information modeling ofbuilding water supply and drainage system, three-dimensional simulation technologynot only can a new communication platform for each participants, but also can play apositive performance in the process of pipeline integrated design. To sum up AutodeskRevit MEP2013software has the best performance in three-dimensional modeling andsimulation.
