Acrylic polymers have good alkali resistance, water-retaining property and structural stability, have been applied in secondary batteries in many countries, to improve the stabilities and using time of the batteries. At present, the industrial synthesis of cross-linking polyacrylic absorbent resin cost is high, and the main purpose is not used as alkaline battery additives, so far alkaline battery using acrylic polymers is the trend of the development of the market.Alkaline secondary zinc nickel battery has a history more than half a century, but as a result of the instability problem of zinc in alkaline still cannot be solved, and with the worsening of the environment, the demand of zinc nickel batteries increases rapidly and is mainly due to zinc nickel battery is environment friendly and recycled. The experiments in this paper have synthesized cross linked sodium polyacrylate with a network structure by solution method and infrared spectrum analysis proved that the cross linking structure in it. Coating the cross-linked sodium polyacrylate powder that has been processed on nickel zinc battery negative electrode, then using the new battery to do the next experiments that include the internal resistance and thermal aging resistance measurements, self discharge test,25C rate discharge test and-2O℃1C,5C, IOC rate discharge test. The results of these tests show that the cross linked polyacrylic acid sodium added to the battery has little affect on battery internal resistance and thermal decomposition does not occur after aging. It also can reduce the self-discharge of the battery. What’s more, it reduces polarization phenomenon through ion exchange in the battery discharge time, which also plays an important role in stabling discharge voltage and enhancing the battery discharge time.
