Heat meter is an important instrument to measure and display the heat energy in heat exchange duct. With the reform of the charging system on household measurement of heating deepening, heat measuring instruments will enter more families. So the development and application of heat measuring instruments will have broad market prospects. Compared with foreign heat meter, domestic heat meters have obvious disadvantages in the aspect of stability and measuring accuracy although they are cheap. Most of domestic heat measuring instruments are produced by imitation as a result of the weakness in developing capabilities and lack of deep study on the basic theory of heat meter’s performance. Therefore, in order to achieve the heat billing reform as soon as possible, it is urgent to develop suitable thermal measurement instruments.In order to analyze the reason why the heat measuring instrument has those problems in accuracy and reliability in detail, a heat measurement system was designed based on MSP430single chip machine on the basis of reading vast literatures at home and abroad on thermal measurement and studying heat meter’s working principle and designing rules. The related experiments were designed to analyze the key problems of heat measuring instrument. The main contents of this paper are as follows:(1) An in-depth analysis of the heat metering algorithm shows that it is of a particular importance in choosing a reasonable heat metering algorithm since different algorithms affect greatly on accuracy of heat measurement. Enthalpy method and k coefficient measurement method are used to calculate the heat after analyzing the experimental data, thus, the best thermal measurement method is selected.(2) According to the research on matching temperature sensors, the accuracy of temperature measurement has great impact on heat measurement. After comparing the measuring principles with experimental results, the most high-precision temperature measurement circuit is chosen as the temperature detection method in heat metering system.(3) The heat metering system is designed and completed, on which the tests are done on flow, temperature and heat respectively. By analyzing measured results, the parameters of the heat metering system ought to be determined.
