With the traffic demand increasing quickly among citizens, the amount of vehicles has achieved a relatively high level, which has in one hand improved the living standard of the society, but on the other hand brought about a lot of traffic problems, in which traffic congestion is the most common serious one. Years of practice has showed that construction of new road and restrict on the increase of vehicle amount to withhold the traffic demand can’t solve the traffic problem efficiently in the long run. Therefore, we need to control traffic light parameters like cycle, green time and offset in real time, to make the traffic flow well-organized. In order to control the traffic light in real time, and balance the traffic flow within the region, scholars around the world devoted in this field has made immense amounts of research targeting saturated road network, and published numerous papers. On the basis of previous studies, a regional traffic optimization method will be proposed based on the multi-agent cluster consensus with WangJing district in Beijing being taken as an example.Traffic congestion often occurs in some links within urban traffic network(UTN), however, there exist much space in other links not being utilized sufficiently. Besides, traffic flow in UTN has a strong characteristic of time varying. In order to deal with the problem of traffic congestion and balance the traffic flow in the network, multi-agent cluster consensus algorithm(MACC) of UTN is proposed in the paper.Firstly, the density of vehicles in the link is chosen as state of UTN, and then the state-space model of UTN is established, which describes transition relation of vehicles on links.Furthermore, cluster consensus algorithm of UTN is provided, i.e., the set of links is divided into some nonempty and disjoint subsets using FCM clustering algorithm, in each of which the density of links can reach consensus, and the consensus states are not necessarily equal. Then, each of links within UTN is abstracted as an agent, and state feedback control law is designed. The adjacent agents can communicate and exchange information with each other. When the green time of links in the same intersection conflict, agents will coordinates and negotiates with each other to solve the problem. Thus, the proposed algorithm can balance the density of vehicles on links, which relieves traffic jam, and decreases delay of vehicles. At last, MATLAB, VB and traffic simulation software VISSIM is used to analyze the real-world road network in Wangjing district in Beijing, and simulation results show the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed methods.
