Since the sixth large-scale speed-up of China railway,the running situation of the train is more and more complexer.The key components of the train often fail,especially the wheelset tread fault in the bogie.The current maintenance and repair system of the train is a kind of planned preventive maintenance system.Therefore,it needs an accurate and efficient moni-toring system for train wheelset tread fault.It can pass the fault information to the train stew-ard and the ground monitoring center by a method which is dynamic and real-time.Finally the vehicle department is responsible for summarizing fault informations and guiding basic departments to prepare for vehicles’maintenance and repair in advance.Thus to provide re-liable technical supports for achieving the goals of maintenance for the status of the train.Based on the methods of domestic and overseas tread fault detection and the develop-ments of the monitoring and control systems for the train,this paper introduces several kinds of the typical tread fault in detail.Theoretical analysis and simulation calculation are used to determine the key factor-acceleration of the scrape vibration from two aspects of the kine-matics and dynamics analysis of wheel/rail relationship.And the advantages of vibration ac-celeration test is verified theoretically.Vehicle dynamics simulation model is set up by using ADAMS/Rail.The correctness of the simulation model and the reliability of the simulation data are verified by comparing with the measured data.Through the analysis of the wheel/Rail contact dynamics calculation mechanism and the data structure of the property files of wheel,rail,and wheel/rail contact calculation,an innovative method of the tread fault simulation is proposed.This is an innova-tion point of this paper.It realizes the simulation of the actual tread fault and gets a reliable fault signal source.In view of the fault signal,a process of signal analysis and feature extraction is done through time domain analysis,FFT spectrum analysis and HHT spectrum analysis.Processing results show that time domain characteristics are influenced by the speed,load,and rail lines.FFT spectrum analysis can get all the fault characteristic frequency.But it is unable to get representative characteristic frequency section.HHT spectrum analysis can extract the representative characteristic frequency section accurately and effectively.The HHT method of spectrum analysis is used in tread fault signal analysis and feature extraction.It is another innovation point in this paper.The monitoring system for wheelset tread fault is established.The hardwares and soft-wares are designed respectively for the monitoring subsystem of vehicle and locomo-tive.Build and design the train communication network and the GPRS wireless transmission network.Finally it realizes the data transmission and information sharing between train/vehicle and train/ground.
