With the opening of the high-speed railway operation, railway transportation ability has been greatly improved, alleviated the contradiction between the capacity and demand. At the same time, passengers put forward higher requirements on the railway transport service quality, especially the punctuality of rail travel. In order to ensure the high-speed rail travel punctuality, improving the quality of train diagram is needed, and the setting of buffer time is an important factor in determining the quality of train diagram. This paper mainly study on the buffer time’s setting of train diagram using the method of simulation experiment, based on the Wuhan-Guangzhou High-speed railway. Including the following several aspects:(1) Research on the basic concept and influencing factors of train diagram buffer time. This paper introduces the definition, classification, function and setting principle of the train running buffer time, and the relationship between the different kinds of buffer time. The paper summarizes the influence factors of buffer time, and analyzes the relationship between them. Paper also studies the definition, classification, characteristics and probability distribution of train running interference, because of a direct link between the train running interference rules and the setting of train diagram buffer time.(2) Studied on high-speed railway train diagram buffer time evaluation. The article established the evaluation index system of train running buffer time from the dynamic performance of train diagram and transport efficiency two aspects, and proposed several evaluation index, such as journey speed of train, interval carrying capacity, the late time of the train, the number of late trains and the late time of the station. Compared with two evaluation methods of buffer time, analytic method and simulation method, simulation method is adopted to improve the buffer time layout optimization research.(3) Simulated the Wuhan-Guangzhou High-speed trains diagram buffer time optimization. Using the simulation software to study of Wuhan-Guangzhou high-speed trains running buffer time setting and adjustment. Put forward the balance of the buffer time distribution, concentration distribution, gradually increase the setting and completely eliminate the interference these four kinds of the train operation adjustment scheme of train running buffer time. The simulation results show that increasing the buffer time setting scheme to reduce the delay time and reduce the amount of delayed train has the best effect, and can guarantee the high speed and interval through capacity.
