The mathematical model of ship motion in ice zone has been established by the paper based on the separate model of MMG. The requirements of the marine simulator in the new age are put forward by the STCW convention of Manila bill of amendment—the content of ice navigating is indispensible in the marine simulator. Nowadays, the research of the mathematical model of ship motion in ice zone is relative little, but this model has been already established by Canada and Norway, and it can be applied to the prediction of the ship’s manoeuvrability. Therefore, this paper uses the C++programming language to establish the three degrees of freedom mathematical model of ship motion in ice zone on the basis of the foreign research and the mariner simulator of our nation. Before setting up the model, a lot of study of the mechanical property of sea ice has been made. Afterwards, the paper puts the icebreaking progress into3stages artificially for establishing the model easily. Then the force on the hull and propeller and rudder are calculated because of the sea water and air and sea ice, and takes it to the ship motion equation to gets the ship motion parameters. On the basis of the ship motion parameters, the paper sets up the coordinate system to display the position of the ship by using the MFC of the C++programming language. Finally, the icebreaker AHTS/IB Tor Viking II is taken for example to do the research for direct sailing in the non-ice water and the direct sailing and turning experiment in ice water. After obtaining the experimental surge speed and sway speed and heading rate from the simulation data, it is compared with the real ship’s experiment, and it shows the correction of the simulation and then verify the correction of the model.A theoretical basis for the ship navigation in ice in marine simulator is provided by the mathematical model established in this paper.
