The paper summarizes the researches of ship motion in ice zone at home and abroad, combined with STCW convention of Manila bill of amendment proposed guidance and advice about captain and crew’s trainning on polar waters and DNV proposed a new certification standard, resulting in the need to study the subject of ship movement under the action of random ice.The paper analyzes the physical properties of ice, and analyzes the ship’s ice force when traveling in the random ice zone which based on ice-breaking progress, finally established the model of ship motion with three degrees of freedom based on the separate model of MMG. According to separate thoughts, we calculates hydrodynamic and moment of ship’s hull, propeller and rudder separetly, and then couples with the impact of sea ice, finally established the system of equations of ship motion.To test the accuracy of the model, we use the C++ programming language simulate mathematical model, and use fourth order Runge-Kutta integration method to solve the equations of motion, which can display real-time location and status of ship movement and preserve the simulated data to do further studies. The paper use icebreaker AHTS/IB Tor Viking Ⅱ to do direct route simulation and turning simulation, and results indicate the correctness of mathematical model.The established ship motion mathematical model under random ice, which can be used to make maneuverability prediction, will give decision guidance to ships traveling in ice zone, and it can improve the ice sailing ship maneuvering motion mathematical model in the marine simulator.
