Electric power steering system is a new type of electronic assisted steering system. Iteffectively solves the contradiction between portability and sensitivity of the steering, whichis the presence of the driver "road feel" issue, and turn on the vehicle handling and stability inthe process of moving a certain amount of time to improve. In recent years, much carmanufacturers like EPS, Because it have energy-saving, easy to assemble, good road feel andsteering performance and high-performance back to being more advantages. Therefore, bystudying the characteristics of the electric power steering system, it is very important to thedevelopment of automotive electronics assisted areas. Along with the rapid development ofcomputer technology, CarSim that is a vehicle dynamics simulation software and MATLABwhich is a scientific engineering calculation software have become more sophisticated, as themodeling and simulation of EPS system provides a good technology platform..In this paper, First, we create any more dynamic model of the vehicle, and test thevehicle stability. Secondly using MATLAB Simulink software to create the EPS simulationmodel. Finally, combining the CarSim and MTATLAB/Simulink software, namely the jointsimulation of the vehicle and the EPS. This paper describers the current situation as well as atthe beginning of the development process of the EPS, and the domestic electric powersteering system for the study of the situation. Secondly, using multi-body dynamics theory toestablished in CarSim software includes vehicle transmission, braking systems, steeringsystems, suspension systems, tires and bodywork of the vehicle model. On the vehicle modelfor simulation analysis, some shortcomings in terms of steering through contrast were found.Finally, analysising the electric power steering system composition and working principle, bycomparing three different EPS assist characteristic curve, and the linear characteristic curveparameters were determined.Three forms of control assist control, damping control and back control about Controlstrategy were analyzed. and EPS is designed to track the current control strategy. In order to confirm the validity of the design of the control strategy, The traditional PID control and SMCcontrol strategies are compared, By the joint on CarSim and MATLAB/Simulink transientsimulation experiments show that In this paper, the power characteristics and SMC controlstrategy to improve the effectiveness of the vehicle’s steering performance is very obvious.
