With the increasing economy, China has a strong requirement of architectural talent, which makes a contribution to architectural education. Many universities have established the department of architecture and constructed buildings. The specialty teaching space contacts with the design courses most as the core section of the whole building, relates to the implementation of architectural education ideas, also teaches the students about the major lively itself. With the development of architecture education methods,some early-bulit departments of architecture begins to reconstruct and extend, in order to meet the new demands of major teaching. Does these teaching space can fulfill all needs? Do they reach the suitable level of teachers and students? Is there any chance we can improve it? Therefore, it’s quite meaningful to do this research about specialty teaching space of architectural department.This paper selects the specialty teaching space of architecture department as objection, reviews the development of modern architecture education and department buildings in different periods. It analysis the specialty teaching space of architecture department at home and abroad in three aspects:extracurricular learning space, class teaching space and exhibit-crit space through activities,forms, characteristics, trends and so on.Combine the research above and a few ideas about architectural education, this paper concludes four strategies:suitable forms and size of the space, attention to humanized design, flexibility of the space and use of boundary effect. It also figures the imagination and prospect of specialty teaching space of architectural department and hopes can provide some reference in the future.
