As one of the most important components on railway vehicle, wheelset subjected to various forces directly. Because of the impact between wheelset and rail, the traction force and braking force generated. That makes the wheelset have a huge impact on vehicle running stability and safety. The maintenance of wheelset is the most important part of vehicle maintenance, and it is also the most expensive part. Therefor, it has great meanings to study on the problem of wheelset maintenance and failure.First, based on the overview of the study on reliability centered maintenance, wheelset lathing and fatigue life both at home and abroad.Next, this article conducts a deep study on the maintenance thinking, maintenance system and maintenance characteristic, comparative analysis of the differences between different countries in wheelset maintenance, pointing out the problems and shortcomings that exist in the high-speed train service. In the mean time, through the definition of the UIC519, this thesis build the vehicle dynamics model and calculate the wheel tread wear data in a real wheelset lathing cycle. Combine with the dynamics conclusion, illustrate the management of equivalent conicity is an effective approach to optimize wheelset lathing strategy. Propose a new idea to optimize wheelset lathing process that based on the management of equivalent conicity.Finally, this thesis conducts the strength check of the wheelset. On the basis of the establishment of EMU SIMPACK model, this paper compiles the entire load spectrum under the combination of different line conditions. According to theory of life calculation, obtained the different axle fatigue life under different fault conditions.
