Numerical simulations and structural optimizations were made on skewed gas flow and uniform air distribution within ESP in this paper. The porosities of the air distribution plates, the traditional deflector arrangements and the new deflector arrangements which affect the air uniform distribution in ESP were studied. While skewed gas flow is formed by changing the porosities and deflection angles of the air distribution plates.Uniform air distribution is formed by adding air distribution plates and deflectors into the import bell of ESP. CFD simulations were made for the bell of the test model and experimental model were established. The results show that the simulation results are in good agreement with the experimental results. And CFD method used is accurate and feasible.Firstly skewed gas flow is formed by changing the porosities of the air distribution plates in the numerical analysis. The results show that porosities of the third air distribution plate has a great effect upon the skewed gas flow. Porosities distribution must comply with certain rules. Secondly skewed gas flow is formed by changing the deflection angles of the air distribution plates. The results show that the optimal deflection angle of the third air distribution plate is4degree and ratio of H/L is0.15under the experimental size conditons. In industrial size the optimal deflection angle is6degree and ratio of H/L is0.17.The porosities of the air distribution plates, the traditional deflector arrangements and the new deflector arrangements which affect the air uniform distribution were simulated in uniform air distribution numerical analysis. The results show that the porosity of the air distribution plate should choose0.3. Besides10plus10deflectors need to be added to meet the standard of the factory when using traditional deflector arrangement. But when using the new deflector arrangement only6plus6deflectors needed.
