Compared with traditional anti-seismic methods, energy dissipation-seismic reduction technology has many advantages with broad application prospects. However, it started relatively late in China, and it is a long way for its popularization and application. Based on the study of fluid viscous damper of energy dissipation damper, the seismic performance is investigated in this essay.This essay first introduces the classification and characteristics of fluid viscous damper, analyzes its restoring force model, and discusses the speed of damper index for the effect of energy dissipation.The essay also elaborates the analysis method of structures of supplemental viscous damping,and the damping of shock absorption structure design has carried on the introduction, including the use scope, the target, the the design of main structure, the calculation of effective damping ratio and the optimal layout of the damper.The software SAP2000is used to simulate two same frame stuctures of10-stories and one of them is arranged with viscous dampers evenly. The models are analyzed respectively under Wenchuan seismic wave, Elcentro seismic wave and artificial seismic wave to compare the displacements, inter-story drifts, accelerations and inter-story shearing forces in two principal axis directions.And these can be used to verify the seismic performance of the model with viscous damper is obviously than the one without viscous damper. This essay also optimizes the layout of the structure with viscous dampers.Considering there’s not much practical value to optimize with the inter-story drifts as function, this essay uses a more simple and convenient method to optimize and ananyze the model.Finally, this essay summarizes the design methods of viscous dampers based on the time history analysis. It is expected that the seismic response characteristics of structures with fluid viscous damper can be summarized through this example which can provide a reference for this kind of design.
