With the development of shipbuilding industry and shipping trade, the operators put forward higher requirement to the degree of ship automation, the ship automated system is being developed in software-based, intelligent, networked direction. The IAS of shipping which is based-on unmanned engine room, the harmony of bridge and engine control room, the integration of information and command has been the current hot research topic in the field of ship automation.The marine engine room monitoring and alarm system is an important part of ship automation, it can monitor and control the running state and its parameters of various kinds of power equipment in the engine room accurately and reliably. Once the running equipments fail, it sends out sound and light alarm automatically and reminds engineers to make decisions about equipment management measures timely which ensures the safety equipment and personnel as far as possible. In recent years, the people who pursue reliability and security of equipment begin to pay more attention to its ease of operation, interface aesthetics, management efficiency at the same time. All of these factors have become to driving force which explore the new type of marine engine room monitoring and alarm system.This paper introduces the development of engine room monitoring and alarm system firstly, on the base of that, we also analyze its composition and function in detail, thus to predict the trend of its further development.We have completed the system hardware selection on the basis of learning a large amount of engineering data and practical experience,utilized C#and XAML language to complete the development of system application software in Visual Studio2012compilation environment and realized the communication debugging between the system components.In this paper, we propose a new design scheme for the marine engine room monitoring and alarm system which is based on the new building training ship of Dalian Maritime University as a drawing object and the engine room monitoring and alarm system of K-chief600as a reference model. The scheme had been verified in marine engineering simulator in the lab of marine engineering automation, we plan to utilize the testing result in the project of real ship in the next step.
