This dissertation analyzes and studies a U-shape single-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor. The motor is line-starting when connects to the single-phase AC power with asymmetrical air gap structure and single concentrated winding. It is a special kind of single-phase synchronous motor with very simple structure.Firstly, the dissertation elaborates the structure and principle of work of the motor, and the mathematical models and equivalent circuits of this motor are introduced and analyzed. The dissertation analyzes the motor with magnetic and FEM method.Secondly, the dissertation uses magnetic and FEA method to design this U-shape singe-phase permanent synchronous motor, determining the main dimensions of core, permanent magnet material and dimensions, the gap size and the winding parameters, and the performance of this motor is calculated.Thirdly, the dissertation establishes a two-dimensional finite element model with Ansys Maxwell, analyzing the static performance of this motor, and the results confirm that the asymmetrical air gap structure can make the U-shape singe-phase permanent synchronous motor line-starting. The dissertation uses virtual displacement scanning method to determine the rotor stop position of this U-shape singe-phase permanent synchronous motor.Finally, the dissertation analyzes the steady and transient process in the two-dimensional model, and the dissertation is useful to further study and analyze the U-shape singe-phase permanent synchronous motor.
