The image of the city is not only the important research topic in the theories of cityconstruction, but also the inevitable product formed by the continuous development of city.Starting from the theoretical background and the research method of imagetheory,Sort out through the analysis of the historical data of the framework of Nanjingtraditional urban space and the structure of the image development, and then discusses thenew requirements to the city image under the background of major events. As the ultimateobjective of city construction is to serve for the local users, the city image fed back fromusers is a topic which cannot be ignored in the city planning and design.Starting from the image theories, this paper selects the upgrading constructionproblem in the background of city Festival and special events, and focuses on studying thepartial environmental design and promotion for the Nanjing city pushed by the maindriving force of preparing the Youth Olympic Games in2014. It mainly includes the cityimaged reflected in regions of Hexi Youth Olympic Village, and Youth OlympicConvention Center, as well as traffic axis of the Youth Olympic Games. Through profoundextraction and analysis of three important image factors of region, sign and route, thispaper constructs the city image of the region under construction, analyzes the potentialproblems in the region and further discusses the city planning design measures to make thiscity image more distinctive and coherent.The author hopes to arouse city designers· more profound pursuit for high-quality cityspace and concern on users so as to provide a positive answer to the problem of how tocreate an excellent city full of innovation spirits and inspirations.
