Winch is the core equipment of a drilling rig. It is one of the three important workmachines of drilling rig.Whether the performance of winch is good or bad directly affectsthe quality, efficiency and cost of drilling work. Traditional electric winches are largelydriven by the structure using motor and reducer. In addition, to realize automatic drillingfunction, most wiches have a set of automatic driller, therefore, the structure of traditionalwinch is very complex.This paper firstly introduces the development status of drive system of electric drive rigwinch and analyzes the shortage of the existing systems, then puts forward a kind of noveldrive system using low speed and high torque PMSM to directly drive the roller of winch.This drive system replaces the traditional transmission mode with reducer. Through theanalysis to actual operation condition of winch, a multipolar PMSM and its control systemare designed. In motor design respect, according to the actual output requirements of roller,the size and pole-number of the motor are determined, and the rotor magnetic circuitstructure is designed. Then use MATLAB to calculate the motor electromagnetic schemeto choose a set of optimal solutions. This article also uses ANSOFT software to built themodel of the motor and analyze the motor transient and steady state simulation to verifythe rationality of the design of the motor. In electric control system design respect, thissystem uses master and follower control. The two motors are divided into master andfollower, they respectively use speed control and torque control, so as to achieve the goalof two motors’ load balance. The article also introduces the hardware and PLC programdesign of the control system.This drive system is able to optimize transmission structure, improve the efficiency ofthe winch, and make maintenance work and costs be significantly reduced, so it can bewidely applied to various types of lifting machinery.
