The steel structure system has widespread applications in many areas. Compared withtraditional reinforced concrete structure, the steel structure possesses some characteristicssuch as high strength, light weight, compact and uniform material and good mechanicalproperties. Based on the above advantages, the steel structure has unique superiority in theseismic areas of engineering structure, whose earthquake damage is also lighter thanreinforced concrete structure.Along with improved technology and people’s enhancedrequirement to the function of architecture, the style of steel structure presents the featureof diversity, which proposes new challenge to the seismic performance of steel structureitself.This paper introduces the history and development status of steel structure system.Our country belongs to the high seismic zone and urban population is more and moreintensive. All the above indicate that research of building’s seismic performance isimminent. Based on the domestic and abroad related theoretical study, this paperestablishes the architecture model and structure model of one large chassis and doubletowers conjoined steel frame structure by BIM software and uses the universal structureanalysis software SAP2000to do series of analysis of seismic performance on the model.The main contents are listed as follows:1. This paper establishes the architecture model and structure model of this project bytheAutodesk Revit software.2. This paper gets the vibration characteristics of structure by the modal analysis anduses the SAP2000software to do the response spectrum analysis and the flexibletime-history analysis to this structure according to the standardized response spectrumunder the frequent earthquake, and then compares the two results briefly.3. This paper executes the non-linear time-history analysis to the structure under therare earthquake and concludes the trend of plastic hinge. Besides this, by comparing thenodal displacement and story drift angle we get the difference of earthquake responsebetween the two towers.4. The energy dissipation and seismic design are taken by setting the viscoelasticdampers on the structure. This paper compares the earthquake response of dampingstructure and non-damping structure. Thereby we can conclude the excellence of structuretaken the damping design under the rare earthquake.
