The single and regular buildings couldn?t satisfy people?s aesthetic demands, along with the rapid development of building materials and construction technology, which leads to buildings with various kinds of unique image arises at the historic moment. Especially in recent years, steel has been promoted and popularized rapidly because of its advantages such as uniform material, high intensity, light quality and environmental, more and more high-rise structure using steel structure. However, each year the earthquake had caused serious damages all over the world, especially the high-rise buildings collapsed caused irreparable personnel and property loss, strong earthquake damage is unimaginable. Thus, it is particularly urgent to do the research on irregular steel structure?s seismic performance.Based on it, firstly, this paper introduces the judgment basis of the irregular structure, the development of irregular plane structure at home and abroad, the development of steel structure, and commonly used theory of seismic research. Using finite element software SAP2000 to do researches about a irregular steel frame structure with L-shaped flat, which respectively are modal analysis, response spectrum analysis, time history analysis under severe earthquake, the nonlinear time history analysis under rare earthquake and the structure?s energy dissipation analysis after adding a damper damping. The main contents are as follows:1. Using SAP2000 software to do modal analysis respectively for the original structure model(structures without control) and the structure added herringbone support model(support structure), get the structure?s former 12 steps natural vibration period and mass participation factor, which provides the basis for the latter response spectrum analysis and time history analysis.2. Conclusions could be drawn through the comparison about the uncontrolled structure?s and the supported structure?s response spectrum analysis and the time history analysis under severe earthquake.3. Analyzing the support structure?s nonlinear time history under rare earthquake, we can get the seismic responses dates such as story drift,displacement and time cure,and find the structure?s weak story according to the development trend of plastic hinge at the same time.4. Doing the energy dissipation damper design for the support structure added viscous dampers, comparing the seismic response data under severe earthquake both of the support structure and the structure with energy dissipation; finally the advantages of taking measures about energy dissipation damping could be concluded.
