With the economic development of our country, the nonlinear loads, such as swit ching power supply, rectifier, and frequency converter, are widely applied in power sy stem. The nonlinear loads will bring a large amount of harmonic into power system. A s a result, the power quality of power system and the normal use for custom are signifi cantly affected. Meanwhile, the complexity of the electrical appliance increases the re quirement of power system. So power quality is becoming a more and more concernin g problem for both electrical power department and customers. Power quality monitor ing terminal is fundamental for detection and analysis for all kinds of power quality pr oblem. It can provide the evidence for power quality improvement and power system fault detection.In this paper, the power quality monitoring terminal’s research status and development tendency at home and aboard are introduced in this paper; the definition and national standard of power quality are given; the theory and design methods of current, voltage, frequency, power, three phase unbalance degree, voltage harmonic, current fluctuation and drop are theoretical analyzed. A system design scheme is proposed base on32bites DSP processer and AD7606. A modular design approach is used in the hardware system, which includes the signal conditioning module, the monitoring module, the power module, the main program module, the communication module, the man-machine interface. In the software system, data communications between data storage module, man-machine interface module and communication module are performed by an embedded Linux operating system. The DSP software module is used as the core of the whole monitoring terminal software systems, and processes the data. Finally some measured data of power quality are analyzed, and error analysis of power quality monitoring system is done.The power quality monitoring terminal has been put into practical operation, and reached expected targets already. It can satisfy users’ requirements in power quality monitoring. Actual measured results meet the accuracy requirements of national standards.
