In the wireless sensor network used for forest monitoring, the sensor nodes are powered by batteries generally. The network consists of a large number of sensor nodes distributed widely among the forest, which leads to the great difficulty and inconvenience to replace the batteries and shorten the life cycle of the wireless sensor network. To get rid of the power supply problems of sensor node in the forest, an energy harvesting method based on the bioelectricity of living trees and solar energy is proposed here.Firstly, this paper introduces the generation mechanism of the bioelectricity of living trees and explores the characteristics of the bioelectricity through the test. Then chooses the solar panels that are high efficiency of collecting solar energy and tests the characteristics of the panel. On this basis, an energy harvesting system based on the bioelectricity of living trees and solar energy is designed. The system circuit includes the charge pump circuit, the super capacitors, the DC-DC boost circuit and the Li-ion battery management circuit. Then the system circuit is tested in simulating forest environment, a large number of tests indicates that the faint bioelectricity of living trees and solar energy could be stored in a Li-ion battery without other additional power sources. Through the analysis and calculation of energy consumption of sensor nodes, shows that the electric energy which collected by this system can meet the demand of data acquisition and transmission in low power wireless sensor network.The innovation of this paper involves a new field-the bioelectricity of living tree. The system designed can harvest the solar energy when the illuminance reaches a certain value, or switch to bioelectricity of living trees harvest.
