It is very important to protect the urban biodiversity. The urban biodiversity has aconsanguineous correlation with urban human being habitation environments and sustainable development, and it is a very significant way to constructing and protecting urban biodiversity by the study of plant species diversity of green space in main urban area. In this study, we made asystematic investigation on the plants of all types of green space in main urban area of Hangzhou city, obtained the actuality of green space plants resources, analyzed the species composing of plants in urban green space, calculated and discussed the characteristic of plant biodiversity, intending to provide scientific gist and basic data for the ecological urban construction and urban biodiversity conservation in Hangzhou city. The results of this research were as below:1. The results showed that there were801plants species, which belonged to424genera and124families in green space of Hangzhou main urban area. In those plants, there were285arbor species,220shrub species,258herbage species,3herbaceous-liana species and35ligneous-liana species. Among them,340species were native plants, which were accounted for42.45%of total plants species;207species were introduced from other regions of China,25.84%of total parks plants, and254species were introduced from foreign countries,31.71%of total plants. A lot of the greening plants of Hangzhou were introduced, but ignored the native species, which made the urban greening had little zonal characteristic. In distributing of faculty, on the one hand, the species had the trend of assembling in some worldly great faculty, such as composite, gramineae, leguminosae and rosaceae, on the other hand, the species also had the characteristic of dispersing in some faculty with less species.2. In the all types of green space, the general park green space had the most plants species, the following were public facility green space, residential green space, community park greenspace, and road green space, while roadside green space had the lowest species. The number of species of arbor, shrub and herbage also had the similar characteristic.3. The life-form spectrum of plants in each green space type and in the main urban area of Hangzhou had similar characteristic. The Phanerophytes had the most species, the following were cryptophytes, hemicryptophytes and therophytes, while the chamaephytes had the lowest species. The Phanerophytes had the most species, which proved the climate when the plants growthing quickly was warm and with much humidity, it also reflected that much attention was pad to use a lot of arbor and shrub, and this was good for green space to make more ecological benefit.4. The number of arbor, shrub and herbage which with the frequency more than10.0%were only4,20and3. Generally speaking, although there were800plus plants species used in greening in all, the number of species that used frequently was only about100.5. The most frequent community types was arbor-shrub-herbage, shrub-herbage, arbor-shrub and arbor-herbage secondly, other community types were rare, indicating that construction of community with more layers was pad much attention in greening, this was good for green space to make more ecological benefit.6. The richness of green space plants in main urban area of Hangzhou city was very high. The shrub had the highest species richness, herbage and arbor secondly. The shrub had the biggest uniformity value in all types of green space, arbor secondly, the last one was herbage. In general, the shrub had the highest species diversity level, herbage secondly, the arbor had the lowest species diversity value. The general park green space had the biggest species diversity value than other green space types, the following were residential green space, public facility green space, community park greenspace, and roadside green space, while the lowest species diversity type was road green space. Generally speaking, although the richness of green space plants in main urban area of Hangzhou city was very high, the uniformity was low, which caused the low species diversity value.7. In general, the richness of green space plants of community types that had more layers were higher than those which had only one layer.The arbor-shrub-herbage community type had the highest species richness, the following were shrub-herbage, arbor-shrub, arbor-herbage, scrub, while the grassland had the lowest species richness. The grassland had the biggest uniformity value in all types of community, the following were shrub-herbage, arbor-shrub, arbor-shrub-herbage, shrub-herbage, while the scrub had the lowest uniformity value. The arbor-shrub-herbage community type had the highest species diversity level, the following were shrub-herbage, arbor-shrub, arbor-herbage, scrub, while the grassland had the lowest species diversity level.
